A woman in Bali, Indonesia dies of bird flu

14 August 2007 – The Ministry of Health of Indonesia has announced a new case of human infection of H5N1 avian influenza. A 29-year-old female from Bali Province developed symptoms on 3 August and was hospitalized on 7 August. She died on 12 August. Investigations into the source of her infection indicate exposure to sick and dead poultry.

UN studies use of space technology in fight against the spread of bird flu

1 August 2007 – The United Nations is taking steps to promote the application of space technology to help Asian-Pacific countries fight bird flu, drawing on its potential as part of an integrated early-warning system to track the virus’s path in a region that has suffered by far the largest share of both human and avian infections in the world.

New case of bird flu in Egypt

25 July 2007, Geneva - The Ministry of Health and Population of Egypt has announced a new human case of avian influenza A(H5N1) virus infection. The case is a 25-year-old female from Damietta Governorate. Her infection has been confirmed by the Egyptian Central Public Health Laboratory and by the WHO H5 Reference Laboratory, US Naval Medical Research Unit No.3 (NAMRU-3). She developed symptoms on 20 July and was hospitalized the following day.
