The Pandemic Preparedness Forum

The Pandemic Preparedness Forum (PPF) is a Southeast Asia inter-agency information-sharing forum focused on avian and human influenza. Through monthly meetings, PPF aims to improve coordination and enhance knowledge sharing between organizations working to mitigate the threat of pandemics in Southeast Asia. It is hosted by the UN System Influenza Coordination body (UNSIC) and its members consist of a wide range of representatives from national and international non-governmental organizations, UN agencies, donors, academia and the private sector. Since its inception in 2006, PPF meetings have discussed a diverse range of themes within the remit of avian and animal influenza. These include:

  • Risk communication
  • Contingency planning
  • Impact of avian influenza on livelihood and poverty reduction strategies
  • Role of civil society organizations in avian influenza control
  • Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Bangladesh avian influenza prevention and control measures, and pandemic preparedness – avian influenza surveillance and control among internally displaced populations
  • Country and regional simulation exercises
  • Avian influenza prevention and control measures among displaced populations
  • Monitoring and evaluation
  • Non-health aspects of pandemic planning
  • Private sector pandemic preparedness

The Pandemic Preparedness Forums are open sessions welcome to all interested organisations. Members of PPF meet on the first Thursday of every month at the Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel in Bangkok. Those interested in joining a meeting or in becoming part of the monthly email circulation are encouraged to contact Michelle Delaney at the United Nations System Influenza Coordination body (UNSIC) at delaneym@un.org or phone +66 (0) 2288 2688.
